Park Information:
Only minutes from
metropolitan Halifax/Dartmouth, Porters Lake Provincial Park is the
perfect escape from the urban rush, yet the park is close enough for
day trips to visit the many attractions found in the metro area. The
quiet lakeside setting offers a wide range of outdoor opportunities
including camping, boating, canoeing, water skiing, fishing, and
swimming.
Facilities and Services:
Hurricane Juan had a great impact upon the once predominantly
spruce/fir woodlands of the camp grounds of the park.
The campground has been re-designed with larger campsites that take
advantage of the new views capes and shoreline access. Campsites
previously enclosed by the softwoods are now more open and provide a
better appreciation for the surrounding lake. As the new vegetation
leafs-out, the central hill that separates the main loop of the
campground will provide a natural barrier so campers can still enjoy
a sense of isolation from the remainder of the campground.
•Fewer campsites will mean more separation between campers,
•New campsite design will produce generally larger camp pads,
•New opportunities include shoreline walk-in tent sites,
•Campsites capable of handling modern trailer and RV units
•Improved access roads.
The new design provides for future enhancements. Our next focus will
be on the Day-use area and a shoreline trail system.
Porters Lake Provincial Park is open from May 21 - Oct. 11 (for the
2010 season). The park has 80 campsites, a picnic area, boat launch
and trailer dump station. The small unsupervised beach is ideal for
family fun.
Although there are no electrical hook ups on the loop sites water
and vault toilets are conveniently located throughout the
campground. Electrical hook-ups are available are 10 new RV pull
through sites. Accessible flush toilets and showers are available
