Springhill is the geographical centre of
Cumberland County located approximately 230 km from major year round
seaports in Saint John, NB and Halifax, NS. Springhill is located
one hour from Moncton Airport and two hours from Halifax
International Airport; 40 km from the
New Brunswick border and is the second
town when entering NS by road or rail.
Springhill is centrally located in the heart of Cumberland County,
Nova Scotia. Both the Canadian National Railway and the Trans-Canada
Highway are close by.
Nestled in the Cobequid Mountain Range, the surrounding countryside
offers activities such as fishing, hunting, and the pleasures of
warm, saltwater beaches of the nearby Northumberland Strait.
The Town received its name from one of the earliest settlers who called
the place Springhill because of the number of springs on the hillside.
Springhill is blessed with a modern hospital and other related and
expanding health care facilities, a new and vibrant Community Centre
and Arena, a Nova Scotia Community College Campus, a Miners Museum
where one can tour an underground coal mine slope and the Anne
Murray Centre, which stands as a tribute to the internationally
known singer Anne Murray who was born and raised here in Springhill.
