Mahone Bay was settled in 1754, with its bay of 365
islands was a common refuge for pirates and privateers. Now, it is
home to the Wooden Boat Festival where schooner races, boat-building
demonstrations, an old-time oxen boat launch liven the waterfront
each summer.
Among the heritage properties, you will find B&Bs, restaurants,
quality crafts and antique stores. Linger and enjoy pewter, pottery,
folk art, hooked rugs, designer clothing, fine art then top it off
with a coffee and pastry from one of the many fine bakeries.
Mahone Bay is a popular weekend jaunt for nearby Haligonians, the
name for residents of Halifax, all year round.
A favourite, is October's Great Scarecrow Festival when the town comes alive with
Scarecrows of every shape and description, children's entertainment,
antique fair and for the ghoulish at heart a night time graveyard
tour!
