The Municipality of Barrington is the “Lobster Capital of
Canada”, and was incorporated in 1879. We are located on the most
southerly tip of Nova Scotia, just 45 minutes from Yarmouth
via the 103. Lobster is found almost everywhere along the coast and
is caught in “lobster traps” which is lowered to the bottom of the
ocean during the months of December through May.
The world famous Cape Island boat, first built in Clark’s Harbour in
1907, can be found at many wharfs throughout the Municipality of
Barrington. Today the design is standard for small boats that
require high stability and efficiency in North America.
When taking a trip to the Hawk, Cape Sable Island, bird watchers can
enjoy searching for the piping plover. Other rare species of birds

Hawk, you can view the tallest Lighthouse in Nova Scotia.
